Washington: The United States has announced an additional USD 725 million in security assistance for Ukraine as part of an ongoing effort to bolster the country's defense against Russian aggression. This announcement marks the seventy-first tranche of equipment provided from the Department of Defense (DoD) inventories for Ukraine since August 2021. The assistance is part of President Biden's strategic initiative, announced on September 26, aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities. According to Kuwait News Agency, the latest Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package will equip Ukraine with critical resources, including air defense capabilities, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, and anti-tank weapons. This move reflects the United States' commitment to supporting Ukraine by meeting its most urgent battlefield requirements. The US, alongside approximately 50 allies and partners, is actively working through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and its associated Capability Coalitions to ensure Ukraine can adequately defend itself against ongoing Russian aggression. In a related development, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III engaged in discussions with Ukrainian Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov to address the current battlefield dynamics and the specifics of the US security assistance. During the conversation, Secretary Austin condemned Russia's recent missile attacks and the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Systems targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. He also criticized the use of an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile in Ukraine, which signifies a further escalation in the conflict. Secretary Austin reassured Minister Umerov of the continued support and updated him on the ongoing surge in US security assistance aimed at providing Ukraine with the necessary capabilities to defend its sovereignty.
