Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Monday his expectation of reaching a fair trade agreement with China during his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. Trump, speaking alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the White House, expressed confidence that the discussions would conclude with a beneficial trade deal for both nations.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Trump’s meeting with Xi is scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea on October 31 and November 1. Trump also revealed plans to visit China early next year following an invitation from Beijing, emphasizing that arrangements for this visit are nearing completion.
President Trump reiterated his warning of imposing a 175 percent tariff on Chinese imports if China does not engage in trade negotiations by the start of November. This follows a previous imposition of a 57 percent tariff on imports from China, highlighting the ongoing trade tensions between the two countries.
While discussing broader relations, Trump remarked on the mutual respect between the US and China and expressed optimism about resolving existing differences. However, he declined to comment on the situation in the Taiwan Strait, countering a Pentagon assessment by suggesting that China does not intend to seize Taiwan by 2027.
