Kuwait City: The United States Congratulates the South Korean President-elect Lee Jae-myung on his victory in the presidential election, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the alliance between Washington and Seoul, particularly in security and economic trade.
According to Kuwait News Agency, in an official statement released on Tuesday, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, expressed his congratulations to President-elect Lee Jae-myung on his election as the 14th president of the Republic of Korea (ROK). He highlighted the strong commitment between the United States and South Korea, grounded in their Mutual Defense Treaty, shared values, and economic ties. Secretary Rubio also emphasized efforts to modernize the alliance to address the current strategic environment and economic challenges.
Additionally, Secretary Rubio mentioned the importance of continuing to deepen the U.S.-Japan-ROK trilateral cooperation. This cooperation aims to bolster regional security, enhance economic resilience, and defend shared democratic principles.
On Tuesday, South Korea's National Election Commission officially declared Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party the winner of Monday's presidential election, making him the nation's new president.
