US and Russian Leaders to Convene in Alaska for Peace Talks on Ukraine

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet next Friday, August 15, 2025, in Alaska for a summit aimed at negotiating a long-term peaceful settlement to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The meeting will also focus on strengthening economic cooperation in strategic areas, particularly in the Arctic.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the announcement was made by Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov on Saturday. Ushakov explained that Alaska was chosen as the location for the summit due to its geographic and economic significance as a meeting point between Russia and the United States. He further elaborated that the agenda will include discussions on options for achieving a sustainable peace in Ukraine, with the possibility of a follow-up meeting in Russia at the invitation of the US President.

Ushakov noted that intensive preparatory work will be undertaken in the coming days to finalize the summit agenda, as there are existing differences between Moscow and Washington. In addition to the political discussions, the summit will also address mutual economic interests, particularly regarding cooperation in the Arctic region.

This summit marks the first visit by a Russian president to the United States in a decade, highlighting its significance in Russian-American relations.
