London: The foreign ministers of Australia, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom have expressed strong opposition to the Israeli occupation's recent decision to initiate an additional large-scale military operation in Gaza.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministers issued a joint statement on Friday, emphasizing that such action will exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in the region. They highlighted the potential dangers, including the risk to hostages' lives, further civilian displacement, and violations of international humanitarian law.
The statement also addressed concerns over potential annexation or settlement expansion, stressing that these actions contravene international law. The ministers called for a concerted effort from all parties and the international community to end the ongoing conflict through an immediate and lasting ceasefire. They emphasized the urgent need for massive and unimpeded humanitarian assistance to avert the looming threat of famine in Gaza.
Furthermore, the ministers urged the Israeli government to reconsider its recent registration system for international humanitarian organizations. They stressed the importance of allowing these organizations to continue their crucial work in accordance with humanitarian principles to reach civilians in need. The exclusion of these organizations, they warned, would send a troubling message.
The foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a negotiated two-state solution as the sole path to ensure peaceful coexistence, security, and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians.
