US and Bangladesh Finalize Trade Agreement to Enhance Market Access

Washington: The United States and Bangladesh have finalized a significant agreement focused on reciprocal trade, aimed at strengthening economic ties by granting exporters from both nations unprecedented access to each other's markets. This agreement was signed by US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer and Bangladesh's Adviser for Commerce, Textiles and Jute, and Civil Aviation and Tourism, Sheikh Bashir Uddin. According to Kuwait News Agency, the newly signed agreement marks a historic step as the first of its kind in South Asia, signaling progress in market opening, addressing trade barriers, and creating new opportunities for American exporters. Ambassador Greer emphasized its importance in a press statement, highlighting the potential benefits for the US economy. The joint statement outlines how this agreement builds on the longstanding economic relationship between the US and Bangladesh, referencing the US-Bangladesh Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (TICFA) signed in 2013. B angladesh has committed to providing significant preferential market access for US industrial and agricultural goods. In exchange, the United States will lower the reciprocal tariff rate to 19 percent on goods originating from Bangladesh and identify specific products that will receive a zero percent reciprocal tariff rate.
