Kuwait city: United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Al-Salem, visited the Interior Ministry's headquarters on Tuesday to gain insight into the efforts made to protect women in the country.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Interior Ministry hosted Al-Salem as part of Kuwait's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations and exchanging knowledge. The visit included several sectors of the ministry, showcasing the country's dedication to safeguarding women.
The visit commenced with a meeting involving senior officials from the ministry, where discussions focused on initiatives to protect women and girls from all forms of violence and empower women within the security sector.
Al-Salem also toured the female police institute, Al-Sadiq Police Station, the deportation center, and the female prison. During these visits, she was briefed on the conditions of prisoners, rehabilitation and medical services, and the measures implemented to uphold human dignity and rights in line with international standards.
