UN Requests USD 2.3 Billion for Ukraine’s 2026 Humanitarian Aid Plan

Geneva: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced the 2026 Humanitarian Response Plan for Ukraine, aiming to secure USD 2.3 billion to provide life-saving assistance to 4.1 million people.

According to Kuwait News Agency, OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke revealed during a press briefing in Geneva that approximately 10.8 million individuals in Ukraine will need humanitarian aid this year. This figure includes internally-displaced persons and those impacted by the ongoing conflict, now nearing its fifth year.

Laerke emphasized the severe impact of power and heating disruptions amid extreme winter conditions, which are exacerbating the crisis and pushing affected populations to their limits. The humanitarian response plan targets front-line zones and northern border areas, where the need is most acute due to intensified shelling, destruction of infrastructure, and ongoing disruptions to essential services.

The spokesperson highlighted the crucial role of national and local organizations, along with international partners, in delivering humanitarian aid. These groups often operate in challenging and perilous conditions, and Laerke urged the global community to support the appeal for humanitarian funding.
