UN Chief Calls for Enhanced African Representation at UNSC

Aswan: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the necessity of fostering joint action within a multilateral framework to ensure robust African representation in international institutions during his address on Sunday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Guterres delivered his message via video at the Aswan Forum on Sustainable Peace and Development in Egypt. He stressed the need to bolster multilateralism for the future, which includes guaranteeing that African countries achieve stronger representation in global institutions through reforms of the international financial architecture and the UN Security Council.

Guterres further stated that Africa’s permanent representation has been delayed for too long and urged continued collaboration to fulfill the goals of the 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

The fifth edition of the Aswan Forum on Sustainable Peace and Development is taking place in Aswan, Egypt, from October 19-20. The forum, themed “A World in Flux, A Continuant in Motion, Navigating Africa’s Progress Amid Global Shifts,” gathers leaders from across Africa and beyond.

This high-level platform aims to unite heads of state, policymakers, and international partners to support African-led solutions that integrate peace, security, and development in an era of increasing global instability.
