Ukrainian intelligence agent detained in Zaporozhye Region

A Ukrainian Defense Ministry Main Intelligence Directorate agent was detained by the law enforcement in the Zaporozhye Region. The agent passed on information about locations of military and civilian facilities in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, regional law enforcement told reporters Monday.

“Zaporozhye Region law enforcement officers detained a Ukrainian Defense Ministry Main Intelligence Directorate agent. The young man passed on information about locations of military and civilian facilities in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The detainee was gathering information on facilities including banks, pass offices, mass media, social facilities and other locations of mass concentration of civilians,” the law enforcement press office said, adding that the detain is a Russian citizen and may face up to 20 years in prison.

The agent is being checked for involvement in March 29 and April 2 shelling of Melitopol. It was determined that he arrived in the Zaporozhye Region on mission from Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Directorate of Intelligence.

“He was contacted via the Telegram messenger, and was offered to fill in a ‘questionnaire’ to join the ‘Freedom to Russia Legion’ terrorist organization (outlawed in Russia). After his candidacy was approved, he was ordered to depart to Melitopol,” the law enforcement said.

According to the press office, the detainee received a reward of about 1,000-2,000 hryvnas ($27-55).
