UK Provides USD 263,500 for Ukraine’s Cultural Heritage Protection

Copenhagen: The UK government has announced an additional GBP 200,000, approximately USD 263,500, in emergency funding to safeguard Ukraine's cultural heritage amid ongoing conflict. Culture Minister Ian Murray revealed the funding while attending an informal gathering of media and culture ministers in Copenhagen, coinciding with Denmark's Presidency of the Council of the EU.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Minister Murray emphasized the global significance of Ukraine's cultural heritage, stating that the UK is committed to working alongside Ukraine and international partners to protect the nation's historical and cultural artifacts. This emergency funding aims to provide immediate support in preserving Ukraine's cultural identity.

The funding is part of the UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership and will bolster the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund through the UK's International Cultural Heritage Protection (ICHP) programme. The ICHP programme is dedicated to the protection and restoration of international heritage sites, ensuring the preservation of cultural heritage for future generations.

In addition to this latest funding, the UK has already pledged GBP 1.45 million, approximately USD 1.9 million, for Ukrainian heritage protection from 2025 to 2029. Minister Murray also indicated the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's intention to join the Culture Resilience Alliance, which advocates for culture as a vital element of resilience, recovery, and peace during times of conflict and rebuilding.
