London: The UK Foreign Office has declared a fresh set of 100 sanctions against Russia, aiming to curtail its revenue streams and military supply lines as Russian President Vladimir Putin escalates his aggressive campaign in Ukraine. This latest action targets 30 entities and individuals that bolster Russia's military capabilities by providing essential components like electronics, chemicals, and explosives necessary for missile and weapon manufacturing, according to a press release issued by the Foreign Office.
According to Kuwait News Agency, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is currently visiting Kyiv to demonstrate support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian populace. In conjunction with the sanctions, Cooper announced a financial aid package of GBP 142 million to assist Ukraine through the winter months and beyond.
Included in this funding is GBP 100 million earmarked for humanitarian aid, aimed at supporting civilians in frontline areas, safeguarding vulnerable populations, and providing emergency relief for those affected by Russia's ongoing aggression. This aid will focus on repairing critical water and heating infrastructure, supporting livelihoods and employment, and enhancing Ukrainian resilience as they endure the fourth winter of Russia's illegal war.
The additional GBP 42 million will be allocated to essential repairs of the electricity transmission network and implementing crucial defenses for gas and power infrastructure as the harsh winter approaches.
