Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday halted all payments and subsidies to Colombia, accusing President Gustavo Petro of failing to do any effort to stop drug exports to his country.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Trump made the announcement through the Truth Social platform, where he criticized the Colombian president for “strongly encouraging the massive production of drugs, in big and small fields, all over Colombia.” Trump claimed that drug production has become the primary business in Colombia and accused Petro of inaction, despite significant financial support from the United States.
Trump stated, “As of today, these payments or any other form of payment or subsidies will no longer be made to Colombia.” He emphasized that the drug production in Colombia is intended for sale in the United States, which he said results in loss of life and widespread damage.
