Two Yemeni Soldiers Killed in Houthi Attack on Military Posts

Maareb: Two Yemeni soldiers were killed and others injured when they attempted to confront an attack by the Houthi militias on military posts in southern Maareb, the Ministry of Defense said Thursday, in yet another escalation threatening the 2022 fragile ceasefire.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Houthi elements attacked military positions last night using artillery, mortar shells, and machine gun fire, the ministry's media center said in a statement. The attack lasted three hours, during which the government forces succeeded in deterring the offensive, resulting in two personnel being killed and others injured.

The Houthi militias have increased their attacks on a number of government forces' frontline positions, mostly in oil-rich Maareb, which has been a scene of fierce battles in recent years. The UN announced a ceasefire in April 2022, but the Houthis refused to renew it in October of the same year.
