Ankara: Turkiye has initiated a new round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, with the primary objective of achieving a ceasefire to pave the way for lasting peace. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized this aim during the opening of the discussions on Wednesday, urging both parties to concentrate on the outcomes related to previously signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
According to Kuwait News Agency, Fidan also highlighted Turkiye's readiness to facilitate the exchange of prisoners by offering a well-structured methodology. The ongoing talks follow two earlier rounds held in Istanbul in May and June, which successfully led to the exchange of prisoners of war and the drafting of MoUs aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
The resumption of discussions comes at a time of increasing international pressure to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis, signaling the global community's vested interest in the stability of the region.
