Ankara: Turkish Presidency confirmed on Monday that all necessary measures will be taken in a smooth and transparent manner to achieve the goal of a "terror-free Turkiye." The statement came in a post, on platform X, by the Turkish Presidency's Head of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, in response to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announcing its dissolution and disarmament following a call by its jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Altun said the decision by what he called a "terrorist organization" was clear proof that the anti-terror strategy led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had gained momentum and achieved significant progress.
He noted that Turkiye has paid a heavy price over four decades and sacrificed many lives in pursuit of peace and stability, and reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining that course.
In a separate post, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc described the development as a major turning point, saying that Turkiye is moving past the threat of terrorism, which has long hindered its unity and development.
He emphasized that Turkiye will stay true to the core values of its republic and continue its democratic progress while upholding the rule of law.
The PKK announced its dissolution and disarmament earlier on Monday, ending more than 40 years of armed struggle in Turkiye, in line with a call made earlier this year by Ocalan, who has been imprisoned since 1999.
