Malaysia Strengthens Ties with Russia Under “ASEAN-BRICS” Framework

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia announced its intentions to enhance cooperation with Russia within the "ASEAN-BRICS" framework, aiming to foster multilateral partnerships among various countries.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry stated that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to visit Russia from May 13 to 16. This visit is part of Malaysia's role as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and will focus on strengthening ties with Russia, alongside collaboration with BRICS nations.

During his visit, Ibrahim is expected to meet with President Vladimir Putin and other senior Russian officials. The discussions will revolve around regional and international developments, as well as exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.

In 2024, Russia ranked ninth among Malaysia's trade partners, with bilateral trade amounting to approximately USD 2.48 billion.
