Tunisia and Algeria Sign 25 Accords to Boost Cooperation in Energy and Other Sectors

Tunis: Tunisia and Algeria have signed 25 accords aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including energy. This was announced in a statement released by the Tunisian premiership.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the agreements, along with several memoranda of understanding, were signed under the supervision of Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Senzeri and her Algerian counterpart, Sifi Ghrieb. These accords focus on strengthening ties in diplomatic, economic, labor, educational, health, cultural, and media fields.

Ghrieb emphasized the significance of the discussions held during the 23rd session of the joint commission, particularly in addressing security challenges such as securing the shared borders. He highlighted that Algerian energy exports play a crucial role in meeting domestic demand, especially for gas and power. Ghrieb also stressed the importance of executing planned projects to enhance the power grid, which is a vital cross-border interconnection between Tunisia and Algeria. This grid features multiple high-voltage lines that link the two countries and synchronize them with the broader European system via Morocco.

Additionally, Ghrieb pointed out the need to create favorable conditions to increase commercial exchanges and to eliminate obstacles hindering trade between the two nations. The volume of commercial exchanges between Tunisia and Algeria is projected to reach USD 2.3 billion in 2024, marking a 12 percent increase compared to the previous year.
