Trump Imposes Harsh Tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China

Washington: The US President Donald Trump has carried out his threat and signed executive orders imposing steep tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. The executive orders authorize levying 25 percent tariffs on all imports from Mexico and Canada. However, the orders stipulated that Canadian energy products would be levied only 10 percent tariffs, which could be some sort of recognition of the impact of tariffs on energy prices. According to Kuwait News Agency, Trump also inked an executive order placing an additional 10 percent tariff on all imports from China. On Friday, White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced that the president will be implementing Saturday 25 percent tariffs on Mexico, 25 percent tariffs on Canada, and a 10 percent tariff on China for the illegal fentanyl that they have sourced and allowed to distribute into the United States. "The amount of fentanyl that has been seized at the southern border in the last two years alone has the potential to kill tens of million s of Americans," she argued. These measures highlight the administration's stern approach to tackling the ongoing issue of illegal drug distribution affecting the United States.
