Trump Announces Ceasefire Plan Contingent on Hamas Approval

Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that a ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip will be initiated immediately once Hamas agrees to an initial withdrawal line set by Israeli forces from the area. This development aims to address the ongoing conflict in the region. According to Kuwait News Agency, President Trump shared on the Truth Social platform that Israel has consented to an initial withdrawal line, which has been communicated to Hamas. The President emphasized that the ceasefire will take effect as soon as Hamas confirms the arrangement. Additionally, this agreement will trigger the commencement of a hostages and prisoner exchange, setting the stage for further withdrawal measures. President Trump has urged Hamas to act swiftly regarding the ceasefire proposal, cautioning that any delay might result in the suspension of ongoing negotiations. He assured that fairness would be maintained throughout the process. On Friday, the President also called for Israel to halt its bombing campaign in Gaza following a positive response from Hamas to the peace initiative. Hamas announced on Friday its agreement to release all Israeli prisoners, whether alive or deceased, in accordance with the exchange formula proposed by President Trump. The President's plan envisions transforming Gaza into a weapons-free zone, establishing a transitional governance structure, and facilitating the release of both Israeli and Palestinian prisoners.
