Trump Advocates for Diplomatic Path in Iran Nuclear Talks

Washington: US President Donald Trump expressed his preference for a diplomatic solution to achieve an agreement with Iran regarding its nuclear program, emphasizing that the United States will not permit Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.

According to Kuwait News Agency, during his State of the Union address to Congress, Trump reiterated the US's longstanding policy against a nuclear-armed Iran. He highlighted the US military's operation last June, named "Midnight Hammer," which targeted Iran's nuclear program. Trump stated that while Washington had cautioned Tehran against reconstructing its weapons program, Iran continues to pursue what he termed "sinister ambitions."

Trump further noted that Iran has developed missiles that pose a threat to Europe and US bases overseas and is progressing on missiles that could eventually reach American soil. He affirmed that the US is prepared to confront such threats if necessary.

Last Thursday, Trump expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Iran in the near future, suggesting that the negotiations should be brief. The second round of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran took place earlier this week in Geneva, following an initial meeting in Muscat. A third round of talks is scheduled for tomorrow in Geneva.
