Kuwait City: Kuwait is bracing for strong northwesterly winds beginning Monday evening, with gusts surpassing 60 km/h, the Meteorology Department has announced. Acting Director Dharar Al-Ali stated that these winds are expected to significantly reduce horizontal visibility in certain areas and cause sea waves to rise above six feet, with conditions likely to continue through Friday evening.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Ali explained that this period, referred to as the 'Sarayat', is characterized by unstable and rapidly shifting weather patterns. On Sunday evening, wind speeds in the region had already reached over 70 km/h, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h in northern areas. This resulted in visibility plummeting to less than 1,000 meters, and in some places, visibility was reduced to zero.
In addition to the strong winds, there has been an increase in low and mid-level cloud cover, including intermittent cumulus clouds and scattered thunderstorms. These weather changes are linked to the influence of a thermal low-pressure system affecting the region.
Al-Ali has advised motorists to exercise caution on highways due to the reduced visibility and has urged seafarers to be mindful of the rising sea waves.
