Baghdad: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez unveiled an initiative at the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, aimed at addressing the dire situation in Palestine through four key criteria.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Sanchez emphasized the urgent need to halt the bloodshed in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He urged that the ongoing conflict should not be ignored by Europe or the global community. Sanchez warned that attempts to redraw the Middle Eastern map could resurrect past conflicts, noting that the aggression in Gaza since October 2023 had resulted in over 50,000 Palestinian deaths, over 100,000 injuries, and the displacement of two million Gazans.
The initiative's first criterion focuses on ending the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Sanchez disclosed that Spain and Palestine are collaborating on a new UN draft law to lift the Gaza Strip siege unconditionally. The second point involves applying international pressure on Israel to cease its actions in Gaza, using all lawful international means.
The third criterion calls for a political solution via an international peace conference in New York, aiming for the recognition of an independent Palestinian state and the rejuvenation of the two-state solution. Lastly, the fourth criterion advocates for enhanced collaboration between the Arab League and the European Union to resolve the Middle East crisis, based on clear international standards.
