Mogadishu: The Somali army has killed 120 Al-Shabaab militants and injured others in an operation in the Lower Shabelle region, announced Minister of Defense Ahmed Moalim Fiqi. The operation was carried out in collaboration with Ugandan defense forces as part of the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the minister said during a press conference.
According to Kuwait News Agency, several militants were captured alive and a large cache of weapons and military equipment were seized during the operation, Fiqi added. The minister noted that many militants of the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab abandoned their weapons and fled the battlefield.
