Kuwait City: The Pakistan Foreign Office confirmed that bodies of 16 nationals have been recovered after a boat, carrying as many as 63 immigrants, capsized off the northwestern coast of Libya.
According to Kuwait News Agency, following the news of the tragedy, a team from the Embassy of Pakistan in Tripoli headed to Al-Zawiyah city to meet local security and medical officials. There were 63 Pakistanis on the boat, and so far, 16 bodies have been recovered, with their Pakistani nationalities established through their passports.
It further stated that there are 37 survivors, including one in hospital and 33 in police custody. Reportedly, around 10 Pakistanis are missing following the accident. The Embassy in Tripoli is in the process of gathering further information and maintaining contact with the local authorities. Earlier last month, a boat carrying 80 passengers capsized near Morocco, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 Pakistani nationals in the incident.
