Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit Endorses Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Sharm el-sheikh: The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit concluded Monday evening with the endorsement of the agreement to end the Gaza war, which was reached on October 9, through Egyptian, Qatari, Turkish, and American mediation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Egyptian presidency released a statement noting that the summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, highlighted the importance of international cooperation in implementing the terms of the Gaza peace agreement. The terms include a comprehensive cessation of the war in Gaza, the exchange of hostages and captives, Israeli withdrawal, and the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The summit featured a signing ceremony where leaders of the mediating countries endorsed the peace agreement. Participants commended US President Trump's efforts and acknowledged the crucial roles of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye in facilitating the deal. The summit also recognized Egypt's leadership in coordinating humanitarian efforts since the crisis began and praised Egypt's role in organizing the summit.

A significant focus of the summit was the need to begin consultations on mechanisms to implement the next phases of President Trump's settlement plan, addressing governance, security, Gaza reconstruction, and the political track for settlement.

In its statement, Egypt expressed gratitude to summit participants and welcomed the international support for ending the war. Egypt committed to ongoing cooperation with regional and international partners to close this challenging chapter in Middle Eastern and global history, emphasizing its dedication to peace.

The statement reaffirmed Egypt's support for Palestinian rights, including self-determination and the pursuit of safety and peace in an independent state alongside Israel, based on 1967 borders as per international law.

Egypt expressed aspirations for a peaceful Middle East founded on justice and coexistence, free from conflicts. The Sharm el-Sheikh Summit, initiated by Egypt and the US, aimed to advance the Middle East peace process by resolving the Gaza conflict and facilitating a political settlement for the Palestinian issue.

The summit was attended by leaders from Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Turkey, and several other countries, alongside international organizations such as the United Nations and the European Council. The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
