SGS Reports Moderate Earthquake in Eastern Province

Kuwait city: The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) announced that national seismic stations recorded a 4.0-magnitude earthquake in the Eastern Province at a depth of 8 km, with no reported damage.

According to Kuwait News Agency, SGS spokesperson Tariq Aba Al-Khail informed the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the tremor was detected at latitude 24.1323 North and longitude 49.1572 East.

He explained that the quake resulted from tectonic pressures caused by the collision between the Arabian and Eurasian plates near the Zagros Mountains in Iran, which activate fault lines in the Earth's crust in eastern Saudi Arabia.

He added that these geological pressures triggered the seismic activity that caused Monday's tremor.
