Colombo: At least 12 individuals have lost their lives and 17 others have been injured in Sri Lanka due to severe weather conditions, including floods, landslides, and heavy winds. Additionally, two individuals remain missing, as reported by Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center. According to Kuwait News Agency, the Disaster Management Center specified that the Ampara district suffered the highest casualties with eight deaths. The districts of Badulla, Puttalam, Trincomalee, and Vavuniya each reported one fatality linked to the adverse weather conditions caused by a deep depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal. The severe weather has impacted approximately 335,155 people across 23 districts. To ensure safety, 27,717 individuals have been moved to shelters, while 61,290 have sought refuge with relatives. The inclement weather has led to the partial or total destruction of hundreds of homes. Authorities have issued landslide warnings for several districts, including Badulla, Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegal le, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura. In response to rising water levels, flood warnings have been released for the Mahaweli River and several other water bodies, including Heda Oya, Deduru Oya, Mundeni Aru, Malwathu Oya, Kala Oya, and Kelani River. The army, air force, and navy have been deployed to conduct rescue operations in the affected areas.
