Secretary Blinken, UAE FM discuss Lebanon

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed on Wednesday to underscore the need for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict across the Blue Line that implements United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 on Lebanon.

The Secretary emphasized the need for additional aid to be delivered quickly to the people affected by the conflict in southern Lebanon, State Dept. Spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters. “The Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for the UAE’s provision of USD 100 million in humanitarian aid for Lebanon and USD 30 million in aid for Lebanese citizens who have fled to Syria,” Miller noted. The Secretary reiterated that it is time to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza that brings the hostages home, alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people, and ultimately brings an end to the war, he added.
