South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin met with a group of his country’s envoys to the Middle East to discuss ways to enhance diplomacy in the region and urge efforts to enhance Seoul’s bid to host Expo 2030 World Expo.
Park also stressed, at the meeting held in the United Arab Emirates, according to what his office said today, Monday, according to the Korean Yonhap News Agency, that “the unprecedented change in the political situation recently in the Middle East has presented new challenges and opportunities.”
The meeting was attended by 16 heads of South Korean missions, including its ambassadors to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Park pointed to the challenges in garnering support for South Korea’s bid to host the World Expo in the southeastern port city of Busan, where it competes with Saudi Arabia, which maintains close relations with most Arab countries.
Park urged the envoys to show their unremitting efforts and perseverance in this regard, with strong determination, in a manner similar to “selling fireplaces in the hot Middle East.”
