Moscow: Russia announced on Friday that its armed forces executed a wide-scale military strike on crucial targets in Ukraine late Thursday. This move was described as a retaliatory act following a recent drone attack on a presidential palace in Novgorod City, located in Russia's northwest.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on Friday detailing the operation. The statement highlighted that the Russian Armed Forces employed high-precision long-range land- and sea-based weapons, including the advanced Oreshnik mobile medium-range ground-based missile system. The ministry emphasized that the strike was a direct response to Ukraine's alleged attempt to target Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence the previous month.
The statement further specified that the targets of the strike included drone production facilities and military infrastructure within Ukraine. This incident marks the first deployment of the Oreshnik missile system by Moscow in over a year, signaling a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
