Moscow: Russia assailed a European Union decision to suspend Russian assets, labeling it as illegal and a flagrant breach of international law. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated in a press briefing that the EU's policy towards Russia "has been void of any common sense for a long time," adding that Moscow reserves the right to retaliate for the decision.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the EU has frozen substantial amounts of Russian assets in European banks since the launch of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. These assets are estimated to be worth 210 billion euros. The European nations have been contemplating the potential use of these funds to provide aid to Ukraine.
