Doha: The Qatari Foreign Ministry announced a ceasefire agreement between Afghanistan and Pakistan. A statement by the Ministry highlighted that negotiations in Doha, facilitated by Qatari and Turkish mediation, resulted in this agreement.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the two sides agreed on an immediate ceasefire and established a mechanism to promote peace and stability between the two nations. The agreement also includes plans for future meetings to ensure its sustainability and implementation.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed optimism that this development would reduce border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and lead to lasting peace. A statement by Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed the ceasefire following high-level negotiations in Doha. He acknowledged that delegations from both countries would reconvene in Istanbul on October 25 to discuss further details.
Asif expressed gratitude to Qatar and Turkey for their roles in mediating the discussions. The state-run PTV news reported that the negotiations, hosted by Qatar with Turkiye acting as mediator, lasted for 13 hours.
