Putin Arrives in Alaska for Summit with Trump on Ukraine Conflict

Alaska: Russian President Vladimir Putin has touched down in Alaska for a high-stakes summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, focused on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This meeting marks Putin's first visit to Western soil since Russia's military operation in Ukraine commenced in February 2022. According to Kuwait News Agency, President Trump had also arrived at the air base in Alaska earlier, preparing for a summit that serves as a critical test of his commitment to ending the war in Ukraine. The meeting at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is set to be a significant diplomatic engagement between the two leaders. While aboard the presidential plane en route to Alaska, President Trump clarified that he would not be negotiating with Putin on behalf of Ukraine during the summit. He emphasized his intention to facilitate discussions between Russian and Ukrainian leaders, aiming to bring them to the negotiating table. The roots of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict trace back to February 2014, when Russian forces , supported by tanks, entered Ukraine. Despite facing strong resistance from Ukrainian forces, Russia managed to seize territories with significant Russian-speaking populations. The conflict has persisted, causing considerable geopolitical tensions and humanitarian challenges in the region.
