PUK: We Will Not Vote On The General Budget Without Checking Projects In Kirkuk

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Parliamentary Bloc called on the Prime Minister to conduct serious follow-ups on the irregularities and corruption practices practiced by the acting governor of Kirkuk.

MP Dylan Ghafour said, in a joint press conference this evening, Wednesday, that “the acting governor of Kirkuk uses his authority and position to achieve private benefits and interests, and practices the clearest forms of functional exploitation in his areas of influence and his party, and perhaps the most prominent of his legal violations is his allocation of 15% of the governorate’s budget for strategic projects without these projects being subject to strategic expansion.

She added, “We will never allow his legal violations to continue, and we will not vote on the draft budget law for the year 2023 unless careful follow-up is conducted on all projects in Kirkuk,” noting that “the responsibility requires us not to allow the governor to implement projects that serve only narrow interests and deprive thousands from the people of the city, and we will present the file in front of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, so that we are aware of what is going on.”

She called on the Public Prosecutor to take the necessary legal measures to protect the public right, and called on the relevant authorities, especially the Office of Financial Supervision, to preserve public money, especially those related to auditing project contracts in Kirkuk, and to continue to uncover all files of corruption and waste in public money, and not to be affected by pressures and filling the regulatory vacuum created by the dissolution of the provincial councils.

She continued, “There is nothing that hinders us from rejecting all forms of discrimination and injustice suffered by citizens in the Kurdish regions, especially the districts of Qar Hanjir and Shwan, and the areas inhabited by a mixture of Kurds, Turkmens and Arabs,” she said.
