Paris: Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday managed to win the Trophe Des Champions for the 14th time as they secured a 4-1 penalty score against Marseille.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the match was held at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium for the first time and ended in a 2-2 draw after full-time, extending to penalties where PSG captured the trophy.
The first half saw PSG take the lead with a goal in the 13th minute from Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele. Despite several attacking attempts, Marseille could not score in the first half, while PSG relied on their defense and counterattacks. In the second half, Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi made strategic changes, leading to a penalty awarded to Mason Greenwood, who successfully scored in the 76th minute, leveling the match.
The game remained competitive with both teams exchanging attacking opportunities, culminating in Marseille taking the lead due to an own goal by PSG's William Batsho. As the match seemed to favor Marseille, PSG equalized in the 95th minute with a goal from Gonzalo Ramos, pushing the game to penalties.
PSG emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, successfully converting four kicks compared to one for Marseille. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was instrumental in the win, securing the team's 14th Trophe Des Champions title.
