Washington: US President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that imposes an additional 50 percent tariff on imports from India, which will take effect after 21 days. The decision comes amid allegations of India's support to the Russian Federation.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the White House released a statement quoting President Trump, who expressed concerns over India's alleged importation of Russian Federation oil. The statement outlined the imposition of an extra ad valorem rate of duty of 25 percent on Indian imports into the United States.
The tariff is scheduled to be applied to goods entering the US for consumption or withdrawn from warehouses on or after 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, following a 21-day period after the order's date. Exceptions include goods already in transit before the deadline and entered for consumption before September 17, 2025.
This action follows a prior decision by President Trump to impose a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, effective from August 1, in response to India's trade policies.
