New delhi: The Indian government announced on Wednesday its intention to take all necessary actions to safeguard its national interests following the United States' imposition of fresh sanctions related to the import of Russian oil.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs released a statement emphasizing that the recent US sanctions have specifically targeted India's oil imports from Russia. The statement highlighted India's stance, noting that its oil imports are driven by market factors and are aimed at securing energy for its population of 1.4 billion people.
The Ministry's statement described the US decision as "extremely unfortunate," criticizing the additional tariffs as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable." It argued that the US should not single out India for actions that other countries are also undertaking in their national interest. New Delhi's response follows an executive order by US President Donald Trump, implementing an extra 25% tariff on Indian goods.
