Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has embarked on a significant international contact campaign aimed at halting the starvation crisis affecting the people in Gaza. In a move to mobilize global support, Abbas is reaching out to world leaders and international organizations to address what he describes as a deliberate act of starvation being imposed by the Israeli occupation.
According to Kuwait News Agency, President Abbas emphasized the severity of the situation by labeling it a war crime, for which the Israeli occupation must be held fully accountable. The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Abbas's messages to global counterparts highlighted the systematic practices of the Israeli government, which he claims include genocide, killing, destruction, and starvation in Gaza. These actions, he argued, undermine peace efforts and perpetuate instability in the region.
In his communications, President Abbas underlined the urgent need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. He called for the release of hostages and prisoners and stressed the importance of delivering humanitarian aid, especially food and medical supplies, to Gaza. Abbas also advocated for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip, enabling the State of Palestine to resume full responsibilities. This, he asserted, would pave the way for a comprehensive truce, cessation of settler crimes, protection of holy sites, and a political process to end the occupation, guided by international resolutions and peace initiatives.
President Abbas urged world leaders to act swiftly to halt what he described as genocide in Gaza. He highlighted the killings at aid distribution centers and the deliberate starvation efforts, which he argued aim to instill despair and force Palestinians from their homes. Abbas concluded by stating that the current situation is intolerable and requires immediate international intervention.
