Palestinian UN Envoy Highlights Self-Determination as Key to Trump’s Gaza Plan

New york: Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, stated that the success of President Donald Trump's peace plan hinges on Palestinian self-determination and the independence of the State of Palestine.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement was delivered by Mansour during a United Nations General Assembly session concerning the United States' recent veto against a Security Council draft resolution on Gaza. Mansour expressed appreciation for Trump's efforts to end bloodshed and save lives but firmly rejected the annexation of Palestinian land and the forced displacement of its people, as indicated in the plan.

The Palestinian envoy emphasized that the current momentum for peace is unprecedented and necessary to end the region's longstanding horrors and humanitarian suffering. He underscored the shared duty to alleviate the massive suffering that burdens the region.

The session was convened under the "Veto Initiative," a procedure adopted by the General Assembly in April 2022. This initiative mandates an automatic meeting within ten days after a permanent Security Council member exercises a veto, allowing UN Member States to review and discuss the decision.
