Oman Reaffirms Support for Kuwait’s Maritime Sovereignty Amid Iraq Dispute

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has expressed its firm solidarity with Kuwait in regard to its sovereignty over maritime areas and water elevations, urging Iraq to respect the enduring and fraternal ties with Kuwait, alongside the principles of good neighborliness and international law.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement highlighting its concerns over the coordinate lists and maps submitted by Iraq to the United Nations, which it claims infringe upon Kuwait's established maritime sovereignty. Oman reiterated its support for Kuwait's complete sovereignty over its maritime zones and water elevations.

The ministry further urged Iraq to honor bilateral agreements, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, and the long-standing cooperative understandings between Iraq and Kuwait. It emphasized that adherence to international law, principles of good neighborliness, and relevant treaties is crucial for maintaining stability and mutual respect between the two neighboring countries.
