EU Urges Diplomatic Engagement with Iran Amid Tensions

Brussels: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on Monday called for a "diplomatic solution" on Iran ahead of expected talks between Tehran and Washington, as US President Donald Trump referred to the possibility of launching strikes on the country.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas addressed reporters before a meeting of European Union foreign ministers at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels. She emphasized that the region cannot afford another war, stating any new conflict would worsen the existing instability.

Kallas pointed out that Iran is currently at a vulnerable stage, suggesting that the situation presents an opportunity to pursue a political track. She stressed the importance of acting swiftly to achieve a diplomatic solution.

Kallas reiterated that the European Union supports a diplomatic approach, emphasizing the necessity to avoid further escalation and to foster de-escalation in the Middle East through dialogue.
