Vienna: Ministers of Oil and Energy have begun arriving at Hofburg Palace in Vienna to participate in the ninth International OPEC Seminar, which launches today. The two-day event will focus on the evolving energy landscape, addressing the growing challenges within the sector and the role of oil in ensuring a sustainable and equitable energy future amid geopolitical, economic, and climate changes.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the seminar's media department stated that the first day will include an opening ceremony for the exhibition section, featuring participation from various establishments and specialized companies. The official opening ceremony will be held in the main hall, followed by a preliminary session addressing the sector's most notable challenges.
The first ministerial session titled "Oil Markets: Energy Security, Growth and Prosperity" will examine oil's role as the primary energy source for the global economy. A high-level roundtable will explore immediate prospects and longer-term horizons of global energy markets.
The day's agenda also includes a second ministerial session on mobilizing finance to enhance investments in energy, with estimates suggesting that a cumulative USD 17.4 trillion in oil investments will be required by 2050 to adequately meet demand. Additional roundtables will discuss organizational policies for a fair energy future, investment challenges, the growing needs of developing countries, and mechanisms to address supply shortages.
The first day will conclude with a gala dinner attended by senior political and economic figures, as well as representatives from international organizations. The seminar's second day will feature sessions on innovation, transformation within the energy sector, and reviewing opportunities and challenges in light of technological and digital changes.
