Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reaffirmed the significant status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, also known as holy Jerusalem, in the hearts of the Muslim world. In a statement marking the 56th anniversary of the arson attack on the al-Aqsa Mosque, the OIC emphasized the importance of the city's integrity in relation to regional security and peace.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the OIC placed full responsibility on the Israeli occupation for maintaining the integrity of these sacred sites. The organization highlighted that international conventions, particularly the fourth Geneva Convention, prohibit the Israeli occupation from attacking places of worship and altering the city's demographic and geographical characteristics. These conventions also ensure freedom of access to these sites.
The anniversary occurs against a backdrop of ongoing violations and attacks by Israeli extremist settlers on Al-Aqsa Mosque. The OIC reiterated its steadfast support for the Palestinian people's legal struggle to end occupation and establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The OIC also pledged to continue its legal, diplomatic, and political efforts to safeguard Al-Aqsa Mosque and defend its historical and Muslim identity against attempts of division and Judaization.
