OCHA Secures Permission to Increase Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

Geneva: The spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Jens Laerke, announced that the UN has obtained additional permission to deliver more humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza. This development was shared during a press briefing held in Geneva, where Laerke reported that only five out of nine authorized aid trucks successfully entered the Gaza Strip on Monday via the Kerem Shalom crossing under UN supervision.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Laerke emphasized that the distribution of aid would be carried out through the existing system, which has proven effective and adheres to humanitarian principles prioritizing the urgent needs of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted the critical need for a consistent flow of humanitarian assistance to prevent deepening desperation and suffering in Gaza.

UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) spokesperson, Louise Wateridge, stated that the agency's warehouses in Jordan and Egypt are filled with humanitarian supplies intended for Gaza. She expressed concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions and worsening famine due to the Israeli blockade, which has now entered its eleventh week. Wateridge warned that the situation is dire, with irreversible damage already affecting many, and called for urgent international action to alleviate the suffering and deliver aid to the region.
