Northern Borders Region Emerges as Prime Destination for Astronomical Observation

Amman: Northern Borders Region: Northern Borders Region has become a focal point for astronomical observation due to its notably low levels of light pollution. The region, particularly in areas such as the open spaces around Turaif Governorate, east of Rafha Governorate, and west of Arar, offers optimal conditions for stargazing.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) has identified significantly reduced light pollution levels in these areas. The Bortle Scale, which quantifies night sky brightness, reports readings from Class 2 to 4 in various parts of the region. This allows the Milky Way and its intricate details to be visible with the naked eye under clear skies.

The region's expansive desert horizon and the lack of tall buildings further enhance these conditions by reducing ambient light, thereby improving the quality of astronomical observations. These factors make it possible to observe celestial phenomena such as meteor showers and planetary conjunctions with heightened precision.

Consequently, Northern Borders Region has become an ideal destination for amateur astrophotographers and astrophysicists. The area's dark, vast skies offer an unparalleled opportunity to observe celestial objects with greater clarity, attracting those passionate about exploring the night sky.
