New Drone Attack Ignites Fire at Sarsang Oilfield in Iraq’s Kurdistan

Erbil: A military drone slammed into the Sarsang oilfield in the Kurdistan region, sparking a fire but causing no casualties. The incident occurred on Tuesday and involved a drone strike that triggered an explosion and subsequent blaze at the site.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the region's Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed that the oilfield was hit by the drone, but no injuries were reported. HKN, the company operating the oilfield, noted that the attack took place at 07:00 a.m. local time, resulting in significant damage and ongoing firefighting efforts.

This attack follows another incident on Monday when the Khurmala oilfield, located west of Erbil, was targeted by two drones originating from unknown locations, which also resulted in damage.

Iraq's joint operations command has stated that coordination is underway among security and intelligence authorities in the Kurdistan region to investigate the circumstances surrounding these incidents.
