Mogadishu: A military helicopter from the African Union (AU) peacekeeping mission in Somalia crashed at the airport in the capital Mogadishu, Somalian authorities said on Wednesday. The aircraft was coming from the Bale-Dogle base and had eight crew members on board, with no casualties reported.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) Director General Ahmad Hassan stated that firefighting and emergency teams responded immediately to the crash and are currently dealing with the effects of the accident. Damage assessment is underway.
The situation is reported to be completely under control, and flights at Mogadishu airport continue to operate normally. The area where the accident occurred has been sealed off, and the authority will issue more details regarding the damage after investigations.
