Kuwait city: The United Mexican States' Embassy has released a statement to commemorate Mexico's National Day, highlighting that it has been 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the State of Kuwait.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the diplomatic relationship began in 1975 when then-President of Mexico, Luis Echeverria Alvarez, visited Kuwait for a four-day state visit hosted by the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. The bilateral ties further strengthened with two official visits to Mexico in 2010 by the then Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. These visits were pivotal in the establishment of Kuwait's embassy in Mexico in 2011 and Mexico's embassy in Kuwait in 2012. Additionally, in 2016, President Enrique Pena Nieto made an official visit to Kuwait, further solidifying the relationship.
Trade between Mexico and Kuwait has seen consistent growth, with Mexico now exporting a variety of goods to Kuwait, including cars, trucks, auto parts, industrial products, canned foods, soft drinks, avocados, chilies, green tomatillos, strawberries, and raspberries.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Mexican embassy has proposed the creation of a small fund in collaboration with Kuwaiti authorities. This fund aims to support projects that will implement the more than 25 conventions and agreements between the two nations, focusing on the endemic species of the four deserts in Mexico.
Mexican Ambassador to Kuwait, Eduardo Pena Haller, expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister, the Government of Kuwait, and all Kuwaiti and Mexican nationals residing in Kuwait.
