Kuwait City: Malaysia's Defense Minister Mohammad Khaled Nordin has emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-ASEAN cooperation to tackle both traditional and non-traditional security threats. Nordin highlighted this during a press conference following an ASEAN defense ministers' meeting in Malaysia.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Nordin stressed that the increasing complexity of security threats demands regional unity and cooperation. He stated that the region is confronted with a variety of security challenges that no single nation can address independently. The minister underscored the necessity of enhancing collective capacity to respond effectively and proactively to these threats, as they often surpass national boundaries.
As Malaysia takes on the role of chair of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM), Nordin outlined several key defense priorities. These include addressing both current and emerging security threats, particularly focusing on biological risks and illegal transnational activities.
